AC Milan will only have two centre-backs in the squad for the Derby della Madonnina against Inter tomorrow. With the youngsters participating in the Youth League final, and with some players injured, the depth is not ideal.

Matteo Gabbia and Fikayo Tomori will play from start as there are no other options for Stefano Pioli. As reported by Sky Italia earlier today. Simon Kjaer trained separately at Milanello today and he’s thus not expected to make it back for the game.

On the pitch, Inter and Milan are getting ready for tomorrow’s derby.

The derby could be decisive for the Serie A title for the first time in history – Inter could clinch the title if they are to win against their city rivals.

And of course, no matter the look of the league table or whichever trophies are on offer, the derby is always a special fixture for both the Nerazzurri and the Rossoneri.

But there may be another “derby” in the summer, reports Tuttosport.

This one would take place in the transfer market rather than at the San Siro, however.

Inter and Milan are hardly strangers to trying to sign the same player.

Whether it was the Rossoneri winning the race to sign Sandro Tonali from Brescia, or the Nerazzurri signing Marcus Thuram on a free transfer despite significant Milan interest, the clubs have often gone head-to-head.

According to Tuttosport, there will be another such transfer market “derby” this summer.

Torino defender  has marked himself as a key target for both Inter and Milan.

For the Nerazzurri, the 24-year-old Italian international represents an opportunity to sign an absolutely ideal long-term successor to Francesco Acerbi and Stefan de Vrij.

Buongiorno’s experience playing in a back three particularly marks him out as perfect in that respect.

And for Milan, the persistent injuries to key defenders like Pierre Kalulu and Malick Thiaw this season has convinced them of the need to intervene in the transfer market this summer.

Buongiorno would be a real coup for the Rossoneri given his age and performance levels. So they have every intention of rivalling Inter for his signature.
